Director of Music
Just three months after completing his master’s program in music at England’s Durham University and returning home to the St. Louis area, Christian Hendricks received an invitation that would change the course of his life.
Shortly before Christmas 2018, Hendricks, a native of St. Jacob, Ill., was asked to play the piano at a December worship service at Trinity. He agreed, and in a series of whirlwind career changes that followed, Hendricks was hired as church organist and pianist, and then, following the departure of Ron Robinson, was promoted to the position of Trinity music director. He credits Trinity’s strong musical tradition – and specifically the church choir – with helping smooth the transition into his new job.
He says while he is still feeling his way through a myriad of new job responsibilities, Hendricks hopes to help usher in a new era of music for the church. Eventually, he says, he wants to increase the size of the choir and hopes to expand Trinity’s musical offerings to include performances and compositions by talented young people from local high schools and colleges. “I’m just at the beginning of the dreaming and imagining stage,” he says.
A music composition graduate of Webster University, he also plays piano for COCA’s ballet program, works in the box office of the St. Louis Symphony, and has assisted with area theatrical offerings.
