C. Michael Hawn is professor of church music at Southern Methodist University's Perkins School of Theology, as well as director of SMU's Master of Sacred Music Program. He joined the university's faculty in 1992. He holds graduate degrees from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, in Louisville, Ky., and a B.M.E. degree from Wheaton College, Wheaton, Ill. He is also a student of global music, having received fellowships for the study of music around the world, including visits to Africa, Asia and Latin America. His research led to the publication of a global collection, Halle, Halle: We Sing the World Round, and, more recently, two books on multicultural music and worship: Gather into One: Praying and Singing Globally, and One Bread, One Body: Exploring Cultural Diversity in Worship.
