The children in Vacation Bible School certainly let their light shine. The mission project chosen was Children's Ministries, a non-profit organization created by our own Spirit Sorensen and Charlotte Landrum. Spirit and Charlotte collect teddy bears, backpacks, school supplies, and underwear. These items are then distributed to children in homeless shelters and abuse centers. Our children donated a carload full! Thank you to our children and parents for their generosity! Our children's light "shines in the darkness and the darkness cannot overcome it!"
It was my privilege a few weeks ago to talk to the students attending Trinity's Vacation Bible School. Do Kirk had asked me to come and tell the students about the charity Charlotte Landrum and I have created. She really wanted me to tell the students about how the charity began.
I told about my friend and partner, Connie Vago, and how she had helped so many children who were homeless and in crisis. I told them about how she got cancer at the age of 38. How I had given her a teddy bear and how much of a comfort it had been during her illness and death.
I wondered if the students understood that we had created the charity to give children in crisis and children without a home stuffed animals to help them feel the same comfort Connie did. That we gave other items to the children so hat they felt loved and cared for. I wondered if they understood at all. It was a difficult subject and very abstract for young children.
One week later I knew that they had lastened and understood when Do called me to pick up the stuffed animals and backpacks the children had brought to class. Bags and bags of items had been brought in by our wonderful Trinity children to help other children they didn't even know. The theme of the Vacation Bible School had been "lighthouses". A very fitting theme for our children as they let their lives and spirits shine in a very positive way to help other children.
Many thanks to the students and teachers of Trinity's Vacation Bible School for letting their lights shine. God bless you.
